The London Criminal Justice Partnership
The London Criminal Justice Partnership (CJP) bring together London's criminal justice agencies with other partners to shape and deliver a criminal justice service (CJS) that befits a world class city.
They changed their name from the London Criminal Justice Board (CJB) to London CJP in January 2010 to reflect the multi-agency work they deliver.
Their primary aim is to make London safer by ensuring that Londoners receive an efficient and effective criminal justice service, and by working with local communities to reduce offending.
They seek to:
- Deliver Justice – this includes work to ensure that London’s criminal justice service is effective in bringing offences to justice, engages the public and inspires confidence, puts the needs of the victim at its heart and has simple and efficient processes.
- Making Communities Safer – this includes work to ensure that London’s criminal justice service is playing a full and appropriate role in continuing to reduce crime, fewer people are victims of crime, especially the most serious crimes and the public are protected from the most harmful offenders. Local agencies are responsive to the needs and priorities of the local community, leading to increased confidence in those agencies.
Independent Advisory Group
The London Criminal Justice Partnership (CJP) is committed to delivering a Criminal Justice Service (CJS) that is equal and fair to all and established the Independent Advisory Group (IAG) in 2004 to inform its decisions. The IAG has a number of representatives from London’s communities. One member, The Peace Alliance, a national crime reduction charity working on a local and national basis in partnership with faith, community and statutory organisations, the police and local councils said:
"I am able to bring to the role of Chair, my knowledge on different issues related to crime and criminal justice through my extensive experience of working with London's communities at grass root levels. I shall continue to lend my expertise in the broad areas of community empowerment and diversity, with particular focus on victims of crime, and in sustaining peace and good citizenship. "
