Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED)
Ofsted, is the public body which has responsibility for the inspection of all schools, local
education authorities, teacher training institutions, youth work, 16-19 education and for the regulation of early years childcare, including childminders. The Chief Inspector is appointed by the Government but operates at arms-length from ministers.
Why might I contact OFSTED ?
If, as a parent, you are choosing a school for your child, then OFSTED can assist in providing reports on schools in your area.
You can find out information on childcare providers in your area.
You can also find information and reports on independent/special schools and pupil referral units.
Members of the public can also contact Ofsted with complaints about childminders and other providers who they regulate, but can only contact them with a complaint about a school when an inspection is being carried out
Ofsted also provides reports and research for the public on the provision of educational services.
